What an amazing week! I have to say this was a very fun week! It was a week filled with pirates, dinosaurs and DOT candy! We had a great day Tuesday on, Talk like a Pirate day! We had great activities and we left with pirate eye patches and pirate booty from the treasure chest. Tuesday we also made our DOT day sculptures! We had been waiting for that fun activity. Wednesday we had an amazing field trip to the Fossil Fest at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens. We learned so much and had a great time doing it. Thanks to all of the awesome volunteers for joining us. This week in Math we focused on the number line and all of the different ways we can use one. We learned all about the short i and how to be a good citizen at home, school and in the community. We finished up our Properties unit in Science by creating texture totem poles. They are amazing and the final pictures will be in next weeks blog post. They did such a great job on these. Every day I am so proud of the accomplishments made by these 1st graders and I am so proud to be their teacher! Thanks for your support and I hope everyone has a great week next week, I know we will!!

Good Evening! We had another great week in 1st grade. It was a busy week that ended with DOT day! In math we continued learning about numeracy and had so much fun learning about 10 frames, 100 charts and number lines. We learned all about verbs and had a great time recording our friends acting out different verbs. We had our first spelling test and performed another design challenge using pipe cleaners. We are getting better and better at teamwork and how to work cooperatively with our friends. We completed our Properties of Matter unit in Science and we created an awesome interactive word wall that we can reference daily. We love it! Be sure to check out our Seesaw blog to see all of the wonderful things we added this week. Our week ended with a fun assembly celebrating Dot day! We got to watch the Dot day races between our administrators and each class got to present their Dot day posters. We are all going to leave a positive mark on this world! We hope you all had a wonderful week! Good afternoon! We had yet another great week. The scholars have become pros at just how our classroom works and they are already doing so well. Please continue to read and encourage reading at home. I am so happy to announce that some of my most reluctant readers have come forward and are wanting to read to me all the time! That is so exciting because I know they are feeling safe in our classroom to make mistakes and confident in their abilities! This week in Math we finished up graphing. They took their assessment on Wednesday and I am happy to say that I think the know what they are doing in graphing. The scores were impressive; especially for their first assessment. We have begun Numeracy to 50 for Math. The scholars worked through numeracy stations on Friday and had a great time. This week will be our first week for spelling words. We are studying short a words and their spelling test will be on Friday. I will send home several activities for them to help study at home. There will be a spelling journal that they will keep at home to record all of their work and they will return these on Friday. I also finished reading testing last week so book bags will also be sent home soon. I will let you know what level your child is on for beginning of the year testing. I will be sending home books that are on their level and I encourage you to read those each night with your child. They will keep the books for one week and then return the bags next Monday for new books. Keeping the books for a week allows them to become familiar with their books and helps build their fluency when they are reading a book they already know how to read. In Science, we are continuing the Properties of Matter unit. We had a fun mystery bag game and we began a very cool activity on Friday using pictures we found around the school that have different properties. We are creating a virtual book with our findings and they will be on their Seesaw soon. Be sure to check out their noun tree maps and their graphs on Seesaw as well. In writing, we are beginning writing about small moments that go with the big topic. They are really loving writing and getting better every day. We will revise and edit these papers when they are finished and then we will send home the rough draft and final copy. They actually like to see the corrections on their paper and create their final copy without mistakes. Thank you all for all you do to support your students and our classroom! We appreciate you! Good Morning! We had a great week this week! This week we continued learning about graphing in math. They are getting so good at that. We have been learning all about reading rotations in reading and writing has been fun. We have been writing about things that are important to the students. Being a great citizen is something else we have been learning about. We agree that we are all pretty good citizens. Our first engineering challenge was a HUGE success. For a few of us, it was our first time and we had so much fun. The scholars are learning about team work and collaboration as well as the engineering design process. Mrs. Wagner, from the library gave us our first tour of the library and the scholars got to check out three books. There were lots of new and interesting thing to see. Our library day will be on Thursday's so please send your child's books back on Thursday's. They are always allowed to return a book and check out a new one before then if they would like to. Thank you to all of the parents that participated in the Curriculum Night teamwork challenge! The kids loved seeing your pictures the next day, They can't wait to try that challenge next week. We will be continuing graphs in Math this week, beginning Properties of Matter in Science, We are looking forward to another fun, busy week full of learning. Have a wonderful LONG weekend! See you Monday. Good Morning! What a wonderful first week of school we had last week. Our days were filled with learning, laughter and fun! We are getting to know each other better and getting very good at first grade routines. We are excited for this upcoming week since we will be on more of a schedule and really jumping into first grade learning! I have added pictures and will continue to keep you updated through week. Please check our blog each Saturday for the weekly update! I was a little late this week, I apologize. The first week of school "teacher tired" is the real deal but I am refreshed and ready for another amazing week! Have a great week, I know we will! Meet the teacher night was a great success. I think all would agree that is was so fun to see friends that we missed and see new friends that will be in our class. It is going to be such a great year in first grade!!
